<p><strong>Euodes, euktimene Kypros – The Cradle and the Crossroads of the Mediterranean.</strong></p>
<p><em>Euodes, euktimene</em> &#8211; the two Homeric epithets coming from the Hymn to Aphrodite prove that as early as the ancient times there was a fascination for the island&#8217;s natural and cultural values. All of the cultural trends and political developments in the Mediterranean are perfectly reflected and most splendidly represented in Cyprus. This conference aims at bringing together all topics related to the history and culture of the island from antiquity to the modern times. The subject will be addressed from a wide variety of perspectives, including ancient, medieval and modern history literary studies, linguistics, archaeology and history of art.</p>
<p>Topics include (but are not limited to):<br />
1.	Literature and Art of Cyprus<br />
2.	Cultural Encounters<br />
3.	Ancient and Medieval Languages and Dialects of Cyprus<br />
4.	Continuity and Change: Myth and Religion in Ancient Cyprus<br />
5.	Turning Points in the history of Cyprus<br />
6.	Maritime Trade and Merchant Culture</p>
<p>The conference will be held from Thursday December 2nd to Friday December 3rd, 2010 at the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean and Oriental Studies of the University of Wroclaw, ul. Szewska 49. </p>
<p>The conference’s official language is English. </p>
<p>The proposals for 20-minute papers (of no more than 300 words) should be sent to  agnieszka.toma@gmail.com by October 15th, 2010. [NB: This deadline is no longer restrictive, you can still send your abstracts to the organizers.]</p>
<p>After the conference, accepted papers will be considered for publication in a book form.<br />
The conference registration fee is 90 Euro (covers 2 lunches, dinner, coffee breaks and conference materials).</p>
<p>The conference is oranized by Prof. Gościwit Malinowski.</p>
